Fly on the Wall and Il peut pleurer du ciel

Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo

Through Oct. 13

Fly on the Wall is Danielle McKinney's (1981, Montgomery, Alabama, USA) first solo exhibition in Italy. Hosted by the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the exhibition features a cycle of paintings made especially by the artist for this occasion, along with a small selection of existing works. In the Anglo-Saxon world, the phrase "fly on the wall" is often used as a metaphor to describe observing a given situation without the subject being noticed or involved. This implies the ability to witness events and conversations in the most authentic, unfiltered way, offering unique perspectives and views of what is happening behind closed doors. Being a "fly on the wall," an invisible observer of human behavior, allows one to gain valuable knowledge and understanding.

Il peut pleurer du ciel, is the solo exhibition of Binta Diaw (Milan, Italy, 1995) co-organized and co-produced in collaboration with Associazione Genesi, as part of the third edition of Progetto Genesi. Art and Human Rights promoted by the same association. The project is conceived as a multisensory immersion that addresses the complex issue of migration and its history between two continents: Africa and Europe. An urgent current political and economic issue, migration is also a deep philosophical theme in which identity, cultural heritage and imagination are intertwined.

GALAVERNA, Storie di Matrimonio and Insurrezioni. Fotografie di una protesta

FlashBack Habitat

Through Nov. 10, 2024

In Massimo Sacchetti's art, nature is the origin and the tool that shapes the work. The link with the territory of origin, Gressoney-Saint-Jean, constitutes the backbone of his "Galaverna". The artist captures in the passage of time and the changing seasons the material and the suggestion, the chisel and the hand that shape the sculptures. This is precisely where the "Galaverna", which gives the exhibition its name, springs from: that atmospheric phenomenon that occurs when, between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, the temperature begins to drop and real natural crystals are created from the frost, fleeting and fragile yet extraordinary forms, fragments of ice that are deposited on the branches, on the grass, composing a natural geography with fairy-tale, dreamlike hues. The artist's inspiration stems from these visions and the desire to immortalize a phenomenon that would otherwise be only ephemeral, setting on larch wood the allusion to this natural spectacle. The sculptures are in fact made from thin sheets of transparent resin and Murano glass grit.

Through Sept. 29, 2024

At FlashBack Habitat, it is also possible to view the photo exhibition "Wedding Stories" a magnifying glass on Turin's most populous, vibrant and stratified neighborhood, Barriera di Milano. Stories of Weddings, is the representation of a precise moment in life, told through the language of photography. The shots on display take us through the evolution of the medium and techniques used from the 1950s, when ceremonies were a real official celebration and the anticipation of the photo album was also exciting, to today, with the second immigration and its new rituals, new customs, new faces, but also new hopes.

And "Insurrections. Photographs of a protest" the three-person exhibition that, following an uneven path, tells, in alternating rooms, three times, three protests and three ways of documenting insurrection. Three are thus the symbols that identify the stories and the authors: Chris Suspect with "Path to insurrection," Enrico Gili with "Yellow! A pacific revolution behind an umbrella Hong Kong 2014 - 2019," and Angelo Quattrocchi with "Wounded Knee - Indians to the rescue."

Berthe Morisot. Pittrice impressionista. e Maria Morganti

GAM - Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Torino

Through Mar. 9, 2025

In the year internationally dedicated to Impressionism, from Oct. 16, GAM presents the exhibition "Berthe Morisot. Impressionist Painter," celebrating the history and artistic journey of the only woman among the founders of the Impressionist movement. The exhibition, in collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, illustrates Morisot's connection to the poetics of the movement and brings out her highly personal stamp in capturing the transience of the moment, to symbolize the fragility of existence, capable of gracefully representing the elements of nature and reality. The exhibition layout also welcomes a display, specially designed for the exhibition route, by Stefano Arienti, one of the most recognized Italian artists, who creates a comparison with Morisot and the values of Impressionist language.

While from Oct. 30, 2024, the first major museum anthology dedicated to one of the most influential artists of the Italian painting scene, Maria Morganti, is inaugurated. An exhibition that will unfold as a single performative installation made of the slow deposit of time and color. In Morganti's work it is existence that leaves a sign of its passage through chromatic matter. "My work has in it the experience of color, color understood as a physical entity, as a trace of life."
