Alice Cattaneo. Dove lo spazio chiama il segno, Fausto Melotti. Lasciatemi divertire! and Giosetta Fioroni

GAM - Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Torino

April 16 - September 7, 2025

The exhibition "Alice Cattaneo. Where Space Calls the Sign" at the GAM - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Turin presents a comprehensive survey dedicated to the work of Alice Cattaneo, an artist who explores space through sculptures and installations using materials such as iron, wood, and glass. The title reflects the artist's approach of listening to the material to then intervene. The exhibition does not follow a traditional chronological order but presents fragments of Cattaneo's work reinstalled and rethought for the GAM's space, creating a dialogue between past works and a new site-specific production. The works are described as "interruptions of thought" born from the artist's relationship with the exhibition space.

The GAM Turin also dedicates a major retrospective exhibition to Fausto Melotti, fifty years after his first retrospective at the museum, tracing his entire production from his abstract beginnings in the 1930s to his mature period. The exhibition, titled "Lasciatemi divertire!" (Let Me Have Fun!), underscores the artist's playful and experimental approach and features over 150 works in eight sections that explore the main themes of his poetics, such as abstraction, urban and natural suggestions, cosmologies, ancient myths, the connection between writing and sculpture, musical inspiration and natural rhythms, ceramic production, and his iconic Teatrini (Little Theatres). The installation evokes the artist's Milanese and Roman studios and extends to the museum's outdoor spaces.

In the GAM's Video Library, an exhibition dedicated to the four films made in 1967 by Giosetta Fioroni is presented. Fioroni was an artist who, during the same years, brought cinematic and television images into her silver paintings. The exhibition explores these silent films where slender and inconsistent figures seem to constantly seek something to define their form, reflecting the lightness and ephemeral appearance that the artist herself sought in her work. The exhibition also includes the painting "La ragazza della TV" (The TV Girl) from 1964, which serves as the starting point for the exhibition.

Hotel guests are entitled to a reduced admission fee for both the exhibitions and the permanent collection. Upon check-in, they can request a postcard at the reception to present at the museum ticket office.
